Choosing the right make-up artist is just as important as another wedding vendor. He or She is responsible for doing your makeup for the best day of your life. There are alot of tips and tricks to know when finding the perfect makeup artist for you. Here are 10 tips to help you choose a Make-up Artist for your Big Fat Indian Wedding!

Start Early

You will definitely want to start looking for an MUA early. Cinderella Bridez typically books brides from 12 to 24 months before the wedding. If you go to a wedding and like the brides makeup, ask for the MUA’s name and take notes. It’s best to start comparing what you like and what you don’t like early. You’ll want to get that head start planning as soon as possible. The sooner you start making phone calls and asking around, the more options you will have to choose from.

Do Your Research

Like everything in life, do your research! Check out reviews online, look at Yelp, The Knot, Wedding Wire, Partyslate, and many other vendor platforms to see all types of reviews. Ask around too, ask your friends and recently married brides who they used for their wedding day. Another good research method is going on the MUA’s website, check out their portfolio and their work. This will show you the wide range of skills they have and will really give you an idea of what they are caple of.

Decide the Look you are going for

A really good guiding point when it comes to picking a Makeup Artist is the look you want on your wedding day. Some MUA are just known for a certain look and you may or may not be interested in that look. Head to Pinterest to start a board of wedding makeup ideas.

Try It Out

Go get your makeup done by them. Once you do your research, narrow your choices down to 2 or 3. Reach out to them and make an appointment. Check on their website to see how they want you to reach out. Often times there is a form to fill out, a phone number to call, or an email. Just schedule that appointment and get your beauty on! It’s fun to get pampered and feel good about yourself. Take the time for yourself. If you’re also looking for a hairstylist, try to make the appointment around the same time so you can see the finished produced all together.

Have a Budget

Having a wedding is almost always about budgeting. Before your meeting with the Makeup Artist decide on your budget. A good place to start is look for quality. Ask your Makeup Artist what products they are using on you and find out what essentially you are paying for.

Examine Products

Some MUA have certain brands they like to use, you’ll want to make sure you like those brands too. Sometimes brands can break you out or have a strong fragrance that you don’t agree with. Just make a phone call to ask what products and brands they use. If they say they have variety, that’s great. If they say they use a brand you’ve never heard of, head over to your nearest Sephora, Ulta, or other Beauty Store to check it out. This way you know exactly what you are getting before you’ve even sat in the beauty chair.

Find out type of packages they offer

Makeup artist’s offer a lot of different packages for the big day. While you’re on their website, check them out. You might be surprised with what they offer. Cinderella Bridez’s offers many services check out this link for more information.

Don’t Forget about your Entourage

Remember to include your bridesmaids, family members, and any special guest that might also want their make-up done. Your MUA will expect a headcount to ensure that they will have enough time, enough help, and enough products to get through the day without a hiccup. If you have a big entourage, you’ll want to prepare them for that task. If they are a single MUA this will give them time to find a friend or hire an assistant.

Inform them about the venue

MUAs always have a lot of things they have to bring. They have to bring makeup products for everyone, tools, and supplies. If the venue is not accommodating towards what they need; outlets, good lighting, enough space, they may need to find an alternative place to get ready. Some Makeup Artists will politely decline outdoor weddings because of the outdoor conditions and humidity. If you’re have a destination wedding, find a makeup artist willing to travel.

Check out their personality

Personality is important. You want to make sure your makeup artist is easy to get along with and easy to work with. There will be a lot going on that day and you will want someone there to be calm. Often times this is the make-up artist; they are experienced and have many weddings under their belt. They hopefully can be a calming voice in a crazy storm. You want to be comfortable with your make-up artist. You should be able to ask for adjustments to your makeup without feeling uncomfortable. After all, it is your day, and those photos last forever.  It’s also important that they are easy to work with. If they aren’t doing your hair, someone else will be in their space at the same time they are. They will be working very closely that day. A good tip to test this is to schedule your hair and makeup trial run at the same time. This will not only tell you roughly how long it will take but also how well the two can get along.
