A Beginner’s Guide to Hair Oiling

What is hair oiling?

Hair oiling is the process of massaging hair oil into the scalp. It can be considered stress-relieving especially during difficult times like this. Hair oiling is definitely a fun way to nurture yourself and you can add it to your nighttime routine to spice things up.

The practice of hair oiling has been passed down for many generations and is still very common in many South Asian cultures. Oiling your hair has a ton of benefits especially if you are trying to grow it out. Hair oiling not only improves your hair health but can also help prevent hair loss.

The history of hair oiling

The ancient Ayurvedic practice is deeply rooted in many South Asian cultures. It involves massaging your hair with special herbs and oil formulas that can help produce a healthy scalp and hair. The Ayurveda method of hair oiling suggests oiling your hair about two to three times a week. This practice also involves completely oiling your hair from the roots to the tips at least 20 minutes before you wash and shampoo your hair. For better results, you can leave the oil on overnight and wash it off the next morning. Giving yourself a gentle head massage, along with saturating your strands with oil, is an essential part of the Ayurveda experience.

What oil should you use?
